Walleye-Lake Erie is well known for its huge population of walleye which get the best catches in early spring and deep into the fall. PDF Walleye Regulations. Where to catch walleye: Deep waters in summer from June through August. Shoreline and along piers in fall and early winter. What bait to use: crankbait, spoons or worms in summer. Minnows or shiners in fall and winter.
Yellow Perch fishing seems to reach its peaks in spring (April and May) and late summer to fall (August and September). Where to catch perch: central and western basic and along the shorelines. What bait to use: minnows or shiners.
